About SpadeVista

The methodology came from
the hardest environments.

SpadeVista was built on an approach proven inside large, complicated technology ecosystems — the kind with competing priorities, entrenched vendors, and a dozen systems that all have to keep running.

Where the method comes from

Built at enterprise scale

Our methodology didn't start on a whiteboard. It came out of years spent inside enterprise technology environments where nothing exists in isolation — where a single change touches identity, security, networking and business units across the organization, and where the systems in question cannot go down.

Experience in those environments has proven a consistent truth: systems, processes and the teams that own them are siloed, and technology alone never resolves that. A solution has to be cohesive — the platform and the process improved together — because operational excellence is what actually produces a business outcome, not the software underneath it.

Quantifying the delta difference between current and future state is the other half, and it's closer to a craft than a calculation. It has been refined across years and dozens of scenarios by understanding what CFOs and finance leaders actually need to see. That is the only way projects get funded.

Sequencing is its own mastery. Knowing what order the work has to happen in — what can run in parallel, what has to wait, where the business genuinely cannot absorb disruption — comes from having done it repeatedly, at scale, in environments where precision and uninterrupted operations were the requirement.

Dig deeper. Gain clarity. Solve smarter. Not a framework we invented — a discipline we earned.

That discipline now goes to work for organizations across every vertical — regardless of size, sector, or how complex the environment happens to be. The method scales because the questions are the same everywhere: what is actually happening today, what should be happening instead, and what is the difference worth.

What complexity actually looks like

Ecosystems, not products

Enterprise work is rarely about one system. It is about how many of them interact, and who owns each piece.

Multiple service providers

Managed service partners, platform vendors, integrators and internal teams — each with their own scope, contracts, incentives and definition of done. Coordinating them is its own discipline.

Integration surface

Identity, data flows, APIs and middleware connecting systems that were never designed to work together. The integration layer is where most projects discover what they missed.

Competing stakeholders

Security, operations, finance and the business unit paying for it rarely want the same thing. Alignment is engineered deliberately, not assumed.

Operational constraint

Production cannot stop. Every change has to be planned, staged and validated against live operations — which is why parallel running is a default, not a luxury.

Steve Sutherland

Founder & President

Steve spent 20+ years in enterprise technology and solution design, most recently in Global & Enterprise End User Computing at VMware and Omnissa, responsible for a $10 million annual territory spanning VDI, unified endpoint management, identity and single sign-on across the largest accounts in the portfolio. Before that: enterprise roles at Box and SpringCM.

The through-line across all of it was never the product. It was understanding an environment well enough to propose something that would survive contact with it — aligning security, operations and finance around a shared definition of the problem, working alongside incumbent providers rather than around them, and mapping integration dependencies before committing to a date.

The quantification habit came from the same place. Steve was nominated to lead the ROI tool-building effort deployed as a sales standard across the organization, then taught project-plan and ROI construction to the wider team — building the business cases that clear a capital review. That is the delta difference, learned at enterprise scale.

He founded SpadeVista to bring that discipline to businesses that have outgrown their systems but don't have an enterprise program office to lean on — where the constraint is real and the stakes are proportionally higher for every decision made.

Representative engagement — global device lifecycle

A global enterprise moved every end-user device through a 27-step path: ordered, shipped to a third-party staging facility, imaged and configured by hand, then forwarded on to the employee — with approval gates queued between each stage. We mapped it end to end and asked a different question of every step: does this need a person, or does it need a system?

Most didn't need a person. Imaging and configuration moved upstream to the factory floor, where devices could ship ready to use. Approvals that existed only to move a request forward were automated. The third-party staging vendor came out of the path entirely. The remaining workflow was integrated directly with ServiceNow, so provisioning, tracking and support all ran through systems the business already owned.

27 → 11Process steps
4 wks → 2 wksOrder to delivery
$427 → $220Cost per device

The second-order effects were larger than the first. Devices deployed under modern management could be supported remotely once in the field, which cut help desk ticket volume sharply, reduced downtime and replacement cycles, and removed a $2M first-year cost the business had absorbed after its previous refresh. Security compliance across the deployed fleet rose from 76% to 98%, because policy now travelled with the device rather than depending on someone applying it correctly at a staging bench.

Fewer steps, half the lead time, roughly 48% less cost per device, and a fleet that could finally be managed after deployment. The same sequence SpadeVista runs today: establish the current state, define the future state, quantify the delta difference, then close it.
